Teeth Whitening Part 3 – How to Maintain Your Whiter Teeth

Teeth Whitening in Putney: Part 3 – How to Maintain Your Whiter Teeth

In the final instalment of our 3 part blog on teeth whitening in Putney we are taking a closer look at how you can maintain the whiteness of your teeth following treatment.

After spending time and money on teeth whitening, it is important that you know how to keep the sparkling white colour you worked so hard for.

Daily care

Brushing and flossing daily will help to keep your mouth clean, healthy and stain-free. You should brush after breakfast and before going to bed, as a bare minimum. You can also clean your teeth after each time you eat, to help prevent staining. Perhaps take your toothbrush and toothpaste with you when you go to work, so you can brush after meals.

See your dentist

Visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Your dentist or dental hygienist can polish away surface stains when they clean your teeth.

Our top maintenance tips for whitened teeth

Here is the advice that we give to all our patients, so that they can keep their teeth whiter for longer:

  •       Avoid exposure to substances that stain teeth, such as coffee, tea and red wine. If you do want to consume these beverages, you might prefer to use a straw so that your front teeth are bypassed.
  •       Rinse and/or brush your teeth immediately after they are exposed to foods or beverages that could cause staining.
  •       Good oral hygiene practices can help. Twice daily brushing and daily flossing to remove plaque will go a long way to keeping your teeth whiter for longer. We also recommend the use of a whitening toothpaste once or twice a week, to prevent yellowing. The rest of the time, a normal toothpaste can be used.
  •       Consider going for check up appointments every 6-12 months. If you smoke, or you are frequently exposed to food and drink that stains, you may need more regular treatments.

By following this simple advice, you should find it easier to enjoy and preserve your new, whiter teeth.
